About
Caleb John Lawson is an up-and-coming author of middle-grade and intermediate books. He focuses on stories about ethnic and religious minorities in the United States, writing about grief and bereavement for young audiences, and developing youth literacy skills through reading and creative writing.
His work-in-progress The Great Divide was the winner of the 2017 Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators Summer Student Writer Scholarship, a Sue Alexander Most Promising New Work Award nominee, and a Grand Valley State University Wendy J. Wenner Outstanding Liberal Studies Thesis Award nomiee.
In addition to writing, Caleb is also a graphic designer and public speaker who does educational presentations for student audiences of all ages.
He studied Intercultural Children's Literature and Mandarin Chinese at Grand Valley State University. During his time at GVSU, he served for a year as the Chinese Language and Culture Club President. He was also was honored with the GVSU Asian Student Union "I Am ASU" leadership award, recognizing emerging leadership skills and support to the Asian Student Union, Grand Valley State University, and the greater Grand Rapids community.
He lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan with his husband and their partners, their two dogs, and more books than they have bookshelves.
